Xandra bought some bags of starfruits. Each bag contained 8 starfruits. The total number of starfruits Xandra bought was less than 50. Xandra ate 3 starfruits and gave the rest equally to her 9 friends.

The total number of starfruits is the multiples of 8 since each bag contained 8 starfruits.
Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48

The total number of starfruits given to the 9 friends is the multiples of 9 since there were 9 friends.
Multiples of 9: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45

The total number of starfruits is the multiples of 9 with an added 3 starfruits since Xandra ate 3 starfruits.
Multiples of 9 (+3): 12, 21, 30, 39, 48

Number of starfruits that Xandra bought = 48

= (48 - 3) ÷ 9
