Sabrina bought some bags of mangosteens. Each bag contained 7 mangosteens. The total number of mangosteens Sabrina bought was less than 40. Sabrina ate 3 mangosteens and gave the rest equally to her 8 friends.

The total number of mangosteens is the multiples of 7 since each bag contained 7 mangosteens.
Multiples of 7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35

The total number of mangosteens given to the 8 friends is the multiples of 8 since there were 8 friends.
Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32

The total number of mangosteens is the multiples of 8 with an added 3 mangosteens since Sabrina ate 3 mangosteens.
Multiples of 8 (+3): 11, 19, 27, 35

Number of mangosteens that Sabrina bought = 35
