Jane bought some bags of pears. Each bag contained 7 pears. The total number of pears Jane bought was less than 50. Jane ate 4 pears and gave the rest equally to her 5 friends.

The total number of pears is the multiples of 7 since each bag contained 7 pears.
Multiples of 7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49

The total number of pears given to the 5 friends is the multiples of 5 since there were 5 friends.
Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45

The total number of pears is the multiples of 5 with an added 4 pears since Jane ate 4 pears.
Multiples of 5 (+4): 9, 14, 19, 24, 29, 34, 39, 44, 49

Number of pears that Jane bought = 49

= (49 - 4) ÷ 5
