Penelope baked some muffins. She gave ¹₁₀ of the muffins to her friends and 96 to her relatives. She was left with ¹₂ of the muffins. She packed these into 19 boxes. Some boxes contained 4 muffins while the rest contained 8 muffins.

1. How many muffins were packed into the 19 boxes?
2. How many boxes contained 8 muffins?

Fraction of the muffins given to her relatives
= 1 - ¹₁₀ - ¹₂

= 1 - ¹₁₀ - ⁵₁₀
= ⁴₁₀

Number of muffins that Penelope gave to her relatives = 4 u

4 u = 96

1 u = 96 ÷ 4 = 24

Number of muffins that were packed in 19 boxes
= 5 u
= 5 x 24
= 120

Number of muffins that were packed in 19 boxes = 120

If all the muffins are packed in boxes of 8, the number of muffins needed
= 19 x 8
= 152

Small difference
= 152 - 148
= 4

Number of boxes of 8 muffins
= 19 - 8
= 11
