Nicole baked some scones. She gave ²₅ of the scones to her students and 126 to her colleagues. She was left with ¹₄ of the scones. She packed these into 11 boxes. Some boxes contained 5 scones while the rest contained 10 scones.

1. How many scones were packed into the 11 boxes?
2. How many boxes contained 10 scones?

Fraction of the scones given to her colleagues
= 1 - ²₅ - ¹₄

= 1 - ⁸₂₀ - ⁵₂₀
= ⁷₂₀

Number of scones that Nicole gave to her colleagues = 7 u

7 u = 126

1 u = 126 ÷ 7 = 18

Number of scones that were packed in 11 boxes
= 5 u
= 5 x 18
= 90

Number of scones that were packed in 11 boxes = 90

If all the scones are packed in boxes of 10, the number of scones needed
= 11 x 10
= 110

Small difference
= 110 - 105
= 5

Big difference
= 110 - 90
= 20

= 20 ÷ 5
= 4

Number of boxes of 10 scones
= 11 - 4
= 7
