Kimberly spent ¹₁₀ of her money on a vest and 5 skirts. The vest cost 3 times as much as each skirt. Kimberly spent ¹₂ of her remaining money on a necklace. She spent $465 more on the necklace than on the 5 skirts.

Cost of 1 skirt = 1 u

Cost of 5 skirts
= 5 x 1 u
= 5 u

Cost of 1 vest = 3 u

Cost of 1 vest and 5 skirts
= 3 u + 5 u
= 8 u

Fraction of Kimberly's money spent on each skirt
= ¹₈ x ¹₁₀
= ¹₈₀

(b)
¹₁₀ of her money = 8 u
⁹₁₀ of her money = 9 x 8 u = 72 u

Kimberly's remaining money = 72 u

Cost of the necklace
= ¹₂ x 72 u
= 36 u

Amount that Kimberly spent more on the necklace than on the 5 skirts
= 36 u - 5 u
= 31 u

31 u = 465

1 u = 465 ÷ 31 = 15

¹⁰₁₀ of her money = 10 x 8 u = 80 u

Amount that Kimberly had at first
= 80 u
= 80 x 15
= $1200
