Cost of 4 jackets
= 4 x 1 u
= 4 u

Cost of 1 coat = 3 u

Cost of 1 coat and 4 jackets
= 3 u + 4 u
= 7 u

Fraction of Hilda's money spent on each jacket
= ¹₇ x ¹₃
= ¹₂₁

¹₃ of her money = 7 u
²₃ of her money = 2 x 7 u = 14 u

Hilda's remaining money = 14 u

Cost of the ring
= ⁴₅ x 14 u
= 11.2 u

Amount that Hilda spent more on the ring than on the 4 jackets
= 11.2 u - 4 u
= 7.2 u

7.2 u = 93.6

1 u = 93.6 ÷ 7.2 = 13

³₃ of her money = 3 x 7 u = 21 u

Amount that Hilda had at first
= 21 u
= 21 x 13
= $273
