Cost of 3 jackets
= 3 x 1 u
= 3 u

Cost of 1 windbreaker = 2 u

Cost of 1 windbreaker and 3 jackets
= 2 u + 3 u
= 5 u

Fraction of Kimberly's money spent on each jacket
= ¹₅ x ¹₈
= ¹₄₀

(b)
¹₈ of her money = 5 u
⁷₈ of her money = 7 x 5 u = 35 u

Kimberly's remaining money = 35 u

Cost of the necklace
= ¹₂ x 35 u
= 17.5 u

Amount that Kimberly spent more on the necklace than on the 3 jackets
= 17.5 u - 3 u
= 14.5 u

14.5 u = 246.5

1 u = 246.5 ÷ 14.5 = 17

⁸₈ of her money = 8 x 5 u = 40 u

Amount that Kimberly had at first
= 40 u
