Cost of 1 shirt = 1 u

Cost of 4 shirts
= 4 x 1 u
= 4 u

Cost of 1 dress = 2 u

Cost of 1 dress and 4 shirts
= 2 u + 4 u
= 6 u

Fraction of Anna's money spent on each shirt
= ¹₆ x ¹₄
= ¹₂₄

(b)
¹₄ of her money = 6 u
³₄ of her money = 3 x 6 u = 18 u

Anna's remaining money = 18 u

Cost of the ring
= ⁵₆ x 18 u
= 15 u

Amount that Anna spent more on the ring than on the 4 shirts
= 15 u - 4 u
= 11 u

11 u = 275

1 u = 275 ÷ 11 = 25

⁴₄ of her money = 4 x 6 u = 24 u

Amount that Anna had at first
= 24 u
= 24 x 25
= $600
