Cost of 4 dresses
= 4 x 1 u
= 4 u

Cost of 1 shirt = 2 u

Cost of 1 shirt and 4 dresses
= 2 u + 4 u
= 6 u

Fraction of Nora's money spent on each dress
= ¹₆ x ¹₃
= ¹₁₈

(b)
¹₃ of her money = 6 u
²₃ of her money = 2 x 6 u = 12 u

Nora's remaining money = 12 u

Cost of the ring
= ²₅ x 12 u
= 4.8 u

Amount that Nora spent more on the ring than on the 4 dresses
= 4.8 u - 4 u
= 0.8 u

0.8 u = 11.2

1 u = 11.2 ÷ 0.8 = 14

³₃ of her money = 3 x 6 u = 18 u

Amount that Nora had at first
= 18 u
= 18 x 14
