Cost of 1 jacket = 1 u

Cost of 2 jackets
= 2 x 1 u
= 2 u

Cost of 1 jumpsuit = 2 u

Cost of 1 jumpsuit and 2 jackets
= 2 u + 2 u
= 4 u

Fraction of Zara's money spent on each jacket
= ¹₄ x ¹₅
= ¹₂₀

(b)
¹₅ of her money = 4 u
⁴₅ of her money = 4 x 4 u = 16 u

Zara's remaining money = 16 u

Cost of the ring
= ¹₄ x 16 u
= 4 u

Amount that Zara spent more on the ring than on the 2 jackets
= 4 u - 2 u
= 2 u

2 u = 24

1 u = 24 ÷ 2 = 12

⁵₅ of her money = 5 x 4 u = 20 u

Amount that Zara had at first
= 20 u
= 20 x 12
= $240
