Cost of 2 skirts
= 2 x 1 u
= 2 u

Cost of 1 jumpsuit = 3 u

Cost of 1 jumpsuit and 2 skirts
= 3 u + 2 u
= 5 u

Fraction of Julie's money spent on each skirt
= ¹₅ x ¹₄
= ¹₂₀

(b)
¹₄ of her money = 5 u
³₄ of her money = 3 x 5 u = 15 u

Julie's remaining money = 15 u

Cost of the necklace
= ¹₄ x 15 u
= 3.75 u

Amount that Julie spent more on the necklace than on the 2 skirts
= 3.75 u - 2 u
= 1.75 u

1.75 u = 43.75

1 u = 43.75 ÷ 1.75 = 25

⁴₄ of her money = 4 x 5 u = 20 u

Amount that Julie had at first
= 20 u
= 20 x 25
