Cost of 5 vests
= 5 x 1 u
= 5 u

Cost of 1 sweater = 2 u

Cost of 1 sweater and 5 vests
= 2 u + 5 u
= 7 u

Fraction of Jane's money spent on each vest
= ¹₇ x ¹₆
= ¹₄₂

¹₆ of her money = 7 u
⁵₆ of her money = 5 x 7 u = 35 u

Jane's remaining money = 35 u

Cost of the necklace
= ³₅ x 35 u
= 21 u

Amount that Jane spent more on the necklace than on the 5 vests
= 21 u - 5 u
= 16 u

16 u = 192

1 u = 192 ÷ 16 = 12

⁶₆ of her money = 6 x 7 u = 42 u

Amount that Jane had at first
= 42 u
