Cost of 3 shirts
= 3 x 1 u

Cost of 1 blazer = 3 u

Cost of 1 blazer and 3 shirts
= 3 u + 3 u
= 6 u

Fraction of Hazel's money spent on each shirt
= ¹₆ x ¹₉
= ¹₅₄

(b)
¹₉ of her money = 6 u
⁸₉ of her money = 8 x 6 u = 48 u

Hazel's remaining money = 48 u

Cost of the ring
= ¹₂ x 48 u
= 24 u

Amount that Hazel spent more on the ring than on the 3 shirts
= 24 u - 3 u
= 21 u

21 u = 315

1 u = 315 ÷ 21 = 15

⁹₉ of her money = 9 x 6 u = 54 u

Amount that Hazel had at first
= 54 u
