Cost of 5 blazers
= 5 x 1 u
= 5 u

Cost of 1 coat = 3 u

Cost of 1 coat and 5 blazers
= 3 u + 5 u
= 8 u

Fraction of Hilda's money spent on each blazer
= ¹₈ x ¹₅
= ¹₄₀

(b)
¹₅ of her money = 8 u
⁴₅ of her money = 4 x 8 u = 32 u

Hilda's remaining money = 32 u

Cost of the bracelet
= ¹₂ x 32 u
= 16 u

Amount that Hilda spent more on the bracelet than on the 5 blazers
= 16 u - 5 u
= 11 u

11 u = 297

1 u = 297 ÷ 11 = 27

⁵₅ of her money = 5 x 8 u = 40 u

Amount that Hilda had at first
= 40 u
= 40 x 27
