Cost of 5 shirts
= 5 x 1 u
= 5 u

Cost of 1 blouse = 2 u

Cost of 1 blouse and 5 shirts
= 2 u + 5 u
= 7 u

Fraction of Kathy's money spent on each shirt
= ¹₇ x ¹₃
= ¹₂₁

(b)
¹₃ of her money = 7 u
²₃ of her money = 2 x 7 u = 14 u

Kathy's remaining money = 14 u

Cost of the necklace
= ³₈ x 14 u
= 5.25 u

Amount that Kathy spent more on the necklace than on the 5 shirts
= 5.25 u - 5 u
= 0.25 u

0.25 u = 6.25

1 u = 6.25 ÷ 0.25 = 25

³₃ of her money = 3 x 7 u = 21 u

Amount that Kathy had at first
= 21 u
= 21 x 25
= $525
