1 u + 7 |

0.3 |
Total value |
0.6 u |
0.3 u + 2.1 |
(a)
Number of limes that Tiffany bought = 1 u
Number of dates that Emma bought = 1 u + 7
Amount that Tiffany paid = 0.6 x 1 u = 0.6 u
Amount that Emma paid = 0.3(1 u + 7) = 0.3 u + 2.1
If Emma spent another $0.30, both Emma and Tiffany would spend the same amount.
0.6 u = 0.3 u + 2.1 + 0.3
0.6 u - 0.3 u = 2.1 + 0.3
0.3 u = 2.4
1 u = 2.4 ÷ 0.3 = 8
Number of dates that Emma bought
= 1 u + 7
= 8 + 7
= 15
(b)
Amount that Tiffany spent on the limes
= 0.6 u
= 0.6 x 8
= $4.80
Answer(s): (a) 8; (b) $4.80
