1 u + 2 |
Value |
0.6 |
0.3 |
Total value |
0.6 u |
0.3 u + 0.6 |
(a)
Number of papayas that Lynn bought = 1 u
Number of tomatoes that Sabrina bought = 1 u + 2
Amount that Lynn paid = 0.6 x 1 u = 0.6 u
Amount that Sabrina paid = 0.3(1 u + 2) = 0.3 u + 0.6
If Sabrina spent another $0.90, both Sabrina and Lynn would spend the same amount.
0.6 u = 0.3 u + 0.6 + 0.9
0.6 u - 0.3 u = 0.6 + 0.9
0.3 u = 1.5
1 u = 1.5 ÷ 0.3 = 5
Number of papayas that Lynn bought
= 1 u
= 5
(b)
Amount that Sabrina spent on the tomatoes
= 0.3 u + 0.6
= 0.3 x 5 + 0.6
= 1.5 + 0.6
= $2.10
Answer(s): (a) 5; (b) $2.10
