0.3 |
Total value |
0.6 u |
0.3 u + 0.6 |
(a)
Number of oranges that Victoria bought = 1 u
Number of plums that Risa bought = 1 u + 2
Amount that Victoria paid = 0.6 x 1 u = 0.6 u
Amount that Risa paid = 0.3(1 u + 2) = 0.3 u + 0.6
If Risa spent another $1.50, both Risa and Victoria would spend the same amount.
0.6 u = 0.3 u + 0.6 + 1.5
0.6 u - 0.3 u = 0.6 + 1.5
0.3 u = 2.1
1 u = 2.1 ÷ 0.3 = 7
Number of plums that Risa bought
= 1 u + 2
= 7 + 2
= 9
(b)
Amount that Victoria spent on the oranges
= 0.6 u
= 0.6 x 7
= $4.20
Answer(s): (a) 7; (b) $4.20
