PSLE Raeann and Gabby each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Raeann made 39 muffins and had 245 g of dough left. Gabby made 21 muffins and had 1.055 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Raeann and Gabby
= 39 - 21
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.055 kg = 1.055 x 1000 = 1055 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Gabby and Raeann
= 1055 - 245
= 810 g
Mass of 18 muffins = 810 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 810 ÷ 18
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1055 + 245
= 1300 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1300 ÷ 45
= 28 r 40
Number of muffins = 28
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 28
