PSLE Opal and Lynn each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making sandwiches. The same mass of dough was used for each sandwich. Opal made 32 sandwiches and had 440 g of dough left. Lynn made 12 sandwiches and had 1.04 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each sandwich?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such sandwiches can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of sandwiches made by Opal and Lynn
= 32 - 12
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.04 kg = 1.04 x 1000 = 1040 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Lynn and Opal
= 1040 - 440
= 600 g
Mass of 20 sandwiches = 600 g
Mass of 1 sandwich
= 600 ÷ 20
= 30 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1040 + 440
= 1480 g
Sets of 30 g
= 1480 ÷ 30
= 49 r 10
Number of sandwiches = 49
Answer(s): (a) 30 g; (b) 49
