PSLE Jane and Gwen each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Jane made 44 muffins and had 460 g of dough left. Gwen made 28 muffins and had 1.02 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Jane and Gwen
= 44 - 28
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.02 kg = 1.02 x 1000 = 1020 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Gwen and Jane
= 1020 - 460
= 560 g
Mass of 16 muffins = 560 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1020 + 460
= 1480 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1480 ÷ 35
= 42 r 10
Number of muffins = 42
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 42
