PSLE Wendy and Irene each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Wendy made 31 muffins and had 365 g of dough left. Irene made 11 muffins and had 1.065 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Wendy and Irene
= 31 - 11
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.065 kg = 1.065 x 1000 = 1065 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Irene and Wendy
= 1065 - 365
= 700 g
Mass of 20 muffins = 700 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1065 + 365
= 1430 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1430 ÷ 35
= 40 r 30
Number of muffins = 40
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 40
