PSLE Risa and Gillian each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Risa made 35 tarts and had 350 g of dough left. Gillian made 15 tarts and had 1.15 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Risa and Gillian
= 35 - 15
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.15 kg = 1.15 x 1000 = 1150 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Gillian and Risa
= 1150 - 350
= 800 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 800 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 800 ÷ 20
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1150 + 350
= 1500 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1500 ÷ 40
= 37 r 20
Number of tarts = 37
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 37
