PSLE Jean and Hilda each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Jean made 45 tarts and had 375 g of dough left. Hilda made 25 tarts and had 1.075 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Jean and Hilda
= 45 - 25
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.075 kg = 1.075 x 1000 = 1075 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Hilda and Jean
= 1075 - 375
= 700 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 700 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1075 + 375
= 1450 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1450 ÷ 35
= 41 r 15
Number of tarts = 41
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 41
