Joelle and Shannon each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Joelle made 31 muffins and had 455 g of dough left. Shannon made 11 muffins and had 1.355 kg of dough left.

1. What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
2. With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?

Difference between the number of muffins made by Joelle and Shannon
= 31 - 11
= 20

1 kg = 1000 g
1.355 kg = 1.355 x 1000 = 1355 g

Difference between the remaining dough left by Shannon and Joelle
= 1355 - 455
= 900 g

Mass of 20 muffins = 900 g

Mass of 1 muffin
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g

(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1355 + 455
= 1810 g

Sets of 45 g
= 1810 ÷ 45
= 40 r 10

Number of muffins = 40
