PSLE Zara and Tiffany each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Zara made 34 puffs and had 420 g of dough left. Tiffany made 14 puffs and had 1.32 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Zara and Tiffany
= 34 - 14
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.32 kg = 1.32 x 1000 = 1320 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Tiffany and Zara
= 1320 - 420
= 900 g
Mass of 20 puffs = 900 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1320 + 420
= 1740 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1740 ÷ 45
= 38 r 30
Number of puffs = 38
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 38
