Marion and Xuan each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making croissants. The same mass of dough was used for each croissant. Marion made 34 croissants and had 490 g of dough left. Xuan made 16 croissants and had 1.21 kg of dough left.

1. What was the mass of dough needed for each croissant?
2. With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such croissants can be made at most?

Difference between the number of croissants made by Marion and Xuan
= 34 - 16
= 18

1 kg = 1000 g
1.21 kg = 1.21 x 1000 = 1210 g

Difference between the remaining dough left by Xuan and Marion
= 1210 - 490
= 720 g

Mass of 18 croissants = 720 g

Mass of 1 croissant
= 720 ÷ 18
= 40 g

(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1210 + 490
= 1700 g

Sets of 40 g
= 1700 ÷ 40
= 42 r 20

Number of croissants = 42
