PSLE Tiffany and Barbara each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Tiffany made 30 puffs and had 350 g of dough left. Barbara made 12 puffs and had 1.16 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Tiffany and Barbara
= 30 - 12
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.16 kg = 1.16 x 1000 = 1160 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Barbara and Tiffany
= 1160 - 350
= 810 g
Mass of 18 puffs = 810 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 810 ÷ 18
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1160 + 350
= 1510 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1510 ÷ 45
= 33 r 25
Number of puffs = 33
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 33
