PSLE Hilda and Victoria each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Hilda made 35 tarts and had 450 g of dough left. Victoria made 21 tarts and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Hilda and Victoria
= 35 - 21
= 14
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Victoria and Hilda
= 1010 - 450
= 560 g
Mass of 14 tarts = 560 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 560 ÷ 14
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 450
= 1460 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1460 ÷ 40
= 36 r 20
Number of tarts = 36
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 36
