Kathy and Kylie each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making croissants. The same mass of dough was used for each croissant. Kathy made 32 croissants and had 480 g of dough left. Kylie made 16 croissants and had 1.04 kg of dough left.

1. What was the mass of dough needed for each croissant?
2. With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such croissants can be made at most?

Difference between the number of croissants made by Kathy and Kylie
= 32 - 16
= 16

1 kg = 1000 g
1.04 kg = 1.04 x 1000 = 1040 g

Difference between the remaining dough left by Kylie and Kathy
= 1040 - 480
= 560 g

Mass of 16 croissants = 560 g

Mass of 1 croissant
= 560 ÷ 16
= 35 g

(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1040 + 480
= 1520 g

Sets of 35 g
= 1520 ÷ 35
= 43 r 15

Number of croissants = 43
