PSLE Joelle and Jaslyn each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Joelle made 32 muffins and had 460 g of dough left. Jaslyn made 16 muffins and had 1.18 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Joelle and Jaslyn
= 32 - 16
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.18 kg = 1.18 x 1000 = 1180 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Jaslyn and Joelle
= 1180 - 460
= 720 g
Mass of 16 muffins = 720 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1180 + 460
= 1640 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1640 ÷ 45
= 36 r 20
Number of muffins = 36
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 36
