PSLE Cindy and Yen each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Cindy made 32 puffs and had 430 g of dough left. Yen made 14 puffs and had 1.06 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Cindy and Yen
= 32 - 14
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.06 kg = 1.06 x 1000 = 1060 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Yen and Cindy
= 1060 - 430
= 630 g
Mass of 18 puffs = 630 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 630 ÷ 18
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1060 + 430
= 1490 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1490 ÷ 35
= 42 r 20
Number of puffs = 42
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 42
