PSLE Marion and Esther each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Marion made 32 tarts and had 410 g of dough left. Esther made 18 tarts and had 1.04 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Marion and Esther
= 32 - 18
= 14
1 kg = 1000 g
1.04 kg = 1.04 x 1000 = 1040 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Esther and Marion
= 1040 - 410
= 630 g
Mass of 14 tarts = 630 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 630 ÷ 14
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1040 + 410
= 1450 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1450 ÷ 45
= 32 r 10
Number of tarts = 32
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 32
