PSLE Lynn and Eva each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Lynn made 33 tarts and had 430 g of dough left. Eva made 13 tarts and had 1.23 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Lynn and Eva
= 33 - 13
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.23 kg = 1.23 x 1000 = 1230 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Eva and Lynn
= 1230 - 430
= 800 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 800 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 800 ÷ 20
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1230 + 430
= 1660 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1660 ÷ 40
= 41 r 20
Number of tarts = 41
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 41
