PSLE Emily and Winnie each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making croissants. The same mass of dough was used for each croissant. Emily made 32 croissants and had 370 g of dough left. Winnie made 16 croissants and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each croissant?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such croissants can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of croissants made by Emily and Winnie
= 32 - 16
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Winnie and Emily
= 1010 - 370
= 640 g
Mass of 16 croissants = 640 g
Mass of 1 croissant
= 640 ÷ 16
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 370
= 1380 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1380 ÷ 40
= 34 r 20
Number of croissants = 34
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 34
