PSLE Jade and Emily each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making sandwiches. The same mass of dough was used for each sandwich. Jade made 35 sandwiches and had 375 g of dough left. Emily made 19 sandwiches and had 1.095 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each sandwich?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such sandwiches can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of sandwiches made by Jade and Emily
= 35 - 19
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.095 kg = 1.095 x 1000 = 1095 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Emily and Jade
= 1095 - 375
= 720 g
Mass of 16 sandwiches = 720 g
Mass of 1 sandwich
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1095 + 375
= 1470 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1470 ÷ 45
= 32 r 30
Number of sandwiches = 32
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 32
