PSLE Jane and Tammy each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Jane made 37 tarts and had 285 g of dough left. Tammy made 21 tarts and had 1.005 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Jane and Tammy
= 37 - 21
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.005 kg = 1.005 x 1000 = 1005 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Tammy and Jane
= 1005 - 285
= 720 g
Mass of 16 tarts = 720 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1005 + 285
= 1290 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1290 ÷ 45
= 28 r 30
Number of tarts = 28
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 28
