PSLE Jen and Xylia each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Jen made 30 muffins and had 250 g of dough left. Xylia made 10 muffins and had 1.15 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Jen and Xylia
= 30 - 10
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.15 kg = 1.15 x 1000 = 1150 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Xylia and Jen
= 1150 - 250
= 900 g
Mass of 20 muffins = 900 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1150 + 250
= 1400 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1400 ÷ 45
= 31 r 5
Number of muffins = 31
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 31
