PSLE Jaslyn and Hazel each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Jaslyn made 40 tarts and had 200 g of dough left. Hazel made 22 tarts and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Jaslyn and Hazel
= 40 - 22
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Hazel and Jaslyn
= 1010 - 200
= 810 g
Mass of 18 tarts = 810 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 810 ÷ 18
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 200
= 1210 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1210 ÷ 45
= 26 r 40
Number of tarts = 26
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 26
