PSLE Gwen and Roshel each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Gwen made 34 tarts and had 320 g of dough left. Roshel made 18 tarts and had 1.04 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Gwen and Roshel
= 34 - 18
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.04 kg = 1.04 x 1000 = 1040 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Roshel and Gwen
= 1040 - 320
= 720 g
Mass of 16 tarts = 720 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 720 ÷ 16
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1040 + 320
= 1360 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1360 ÷ 45
= 30 r 10
Number of tarts = 30
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 30
