PSLE Zara and Vanessa each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Zara made 36 puffs and had 380 g of dough left. Vanessa made 16 puffs and had 1.28 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Zara and Vanessa
= 36 - 16
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.28 kg = 1.28 x 1000 = 1280 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Vanessa and Zara
= 1280 - 380
= 900 g
Mass of 20 puffs = 900 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1280 + 380
= 1660 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1660 ÷ 45
= 36 r 40
Number of puffs = 36
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 36
