PSLE Jane and Roshel each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Jane made 34 tarts and had 360 g of dough left. Roshel made 14 tarts and had 1.06 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Jane and Roshel
= 34 - 14
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.06 kg = 1.06 x 1000 = 1060 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Roshel and Jane
= 1060 - 360
= 700 g
Mass of 20 tarts = 700 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1060 + 360
= 1420 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1420 ÷ 35
= 40 r 20
Number of tarts = 40
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 40
