PSLE Lucy and Zara each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Lucy made 30 muffins and had 250 g of dough left. Zara made 12 muffins and had 1.06 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Lucy and Zara
= 30 - 12
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.06 kg = 1.06 x 1000 = 1060 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Zara and Lucy
= 1060 - 250
= 810 g
Mass of 18 muffins = 810 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 810 ÷ 18
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1060 + 250
= 1310 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1310 ÷ 45
= 29 r 5
Number of muffins = 29
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 29
