PSLE Eva and Jen each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Eva made 30 muffins and had 450 g of dough left. Jen made 16 muffins and had 1.01 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Eva and Jen
= 30 - 16
= 14
1 kg = 1000 g
1.01 kg = 1.01 x 1000 = 1010 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Jen and Eva
= 1010 - 450
= 560 g
Mass of 14 muffins = 560 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 560 ÷ 14
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1010 + 450
= 1460 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1460 ÷ 40
= 36 r 20
Number of muffins = 36
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 36
