PSLE Rachel and Gabby each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making sandwiches. The same mass of dough was used for each sandwich. Rachel made 48 sandwiches and had 320 g of dough left. Gabby made 28 sandwiches and had 1.02 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each sandwich?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such sandwiches can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of sandwiches made by Rachel and Gabby
= 48 - 28
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.02 kg = 1.02 x 1000 = 1020 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Gabby and Rachel
= 1020 - 320
= 700 g
Mass of 20 sandwiches = 700 g
Mass of 1 sandwich
= 700 ÷ 20
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1020 + 320
= 1340 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1340 ÷ 35
= 38 r 10
Number of sandwiches = 38
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 38
