PSLE Wendy and Zoe each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making puffs. The same mass of dough was used for each puff. Wendy made 35 puffs and had 350 g of dough left. Zoe made 17 puffs and had 1.07 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each puff?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such puffs can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of puffs made by Wendy and Zoe
= 35 - 17
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.07 kg = 1.07 x 1000 = 1070 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Zoe and Wendy
= 1070 - 350
= 720 g
Mass of 18 puffs = 720 g
Mass of 1 puff
= 720 ÷ 18
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1070 + 350
= 1420 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1420 ÷ 40
= 35 r 20
Number of puffs = 35
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 35
