PSLE Penelope and Jade each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making tarts. The same mass of dough was used for each tart. Penelope made 38 tarts and had 430 g of dough left. Jade made 22 tarts and had 1.07 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each tart?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such tarts can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of tarts made by Penelope and Jade
= 38 - 22
= 16
1 kg = 1000 g
1.07 kg = 1.07 x 1000 = 1070 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Jade and Penelope
= 1070 - 430
= 640 g
Mass of 16 tarts = 640 g
Mass of 1 tart
= 640 ÷ 16
= 40 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1070 + 430
= 1500 g
Sets of 40 g
= 1500 ÷ 40
= 37 r 20
Number of tarts = 37
Answer(s): (a) 40 g; (b) 37
