PSLE Fiona and Betty each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making muffins. The same mass of dough was used for each muffin. Fiona made 36 muffins and had 130 g of dough left. Betty made 16 muffins and had 1.03 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each muffin?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such muffins can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of muffins made by Fiona and Betty
= 36 - 16
= 20
1 kg = 1000 g
1.03 kg = 1.03 x 1000 = 1030 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Betty and Fiona
= 1030 - 130
= 900 g
Mass of 20 muffins = 900 g
Mass of 1 muffin
= 900 ÷ 20
= 45 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1030 + 130
= 1160 g
Sets of 45 g
= 1160 ÷ 45
= 25 r 35
Number of muffins = 25
Answer(s): (a) 45 g; (b) 25
