PSLE Hazel and Risa each had a plate of dough of the same mass for making scones. The same mass of dough was used for each scone. Hazel made 43 scones and had 495 g of dough left. Risa made 25 scones and had 1.125 kg of dough left.
- What was the mass of dough needed for each scone?
- With the remaining dough from both girls, how many more such scones can be made at most?
(a)
Difference between the number of scones made by Hazel and Risa
= 43 - 25
= 18
1 kg = 1000 g
1.125 kg = 1.125 x 1000 = 1125 g
Difference between the remaining dough left by Risa and Hazel
= 1125 - 495
= 630 g
Mass of 18 scones = 630 g
Mass of 1 scone
= 630 ÷ 18
= 35 g
(b)
Total remaining dough left
= 1125 + 495
= 1620 g
Sets of 35 g
= 1620 ÷ 35
= 46 r 10
Number of scones = 46
Answer(s): (a) 35 g; (b) 46
